Terms of service.

The Racket Lab is a racket stringing service operating in Victoria and Langford, British Columbia. You can reach us at theracketlabvic@gmail.com. In these terms, “we” and “us” means The Racket Lab, and “you” means the person booking the service.

We collect your racket from an address you give us, restring it with the string and tension you choose, and return it to the same address. We also fit string that you supply yourself.

Booking a slot is a request, not a confirmed appointment. A booking is confirmed when we reply to say so. We may decline or reschedule a booking, for example if we're fully committed that day, if the address falls outside our service area, or if the weather makes driving unsafe.

We collect Friday to Monday and return Friday to Tuesday, in both cases between 11am and 1pm. Every racket is returned on the day after it is collected: Friday to Saturday, Saturday to Sunday, Sunday to Monday, Monday to Tuesday. In normal conditions that means your racket is back within 24 hours.

Collection and return times are windows, not appointments, and we can't guarantee a precise arrival time. If something delays us such as a mechanical problem, a string that arrives faulty, an unusually heavy day, we'll tell you as soon as we know and agree a new time with you.

If you ask us to collect or leave a racket somewhere unattended, such as a porch or a building lobby, you do so at your own risk. We're not responsible for a racket that goes missing from an unattended location before we collect it or after we return it.

A restring is priced as the cost of the string plus $19.99 labour. If you supply your own string, you pay the $19.99 labour only.

Pickup and return is charged once per visit, not per racket: $9.99 in Victoria, $14.99 in Greater Victoria.

Prices on this site can change, but the price we confirm when we accept your booking is the price you pay for that booking.

Nothing is due when you book. We collect payment after we have picked up the racket and before we return it: by Interac e-Transfer, or in cash when we hand the racket back. If payment isn't received by your return day, we'll reschedule the return and hold your racket until payment is settled.

You can cancel or change a booking at no cost any time before we collect the racket. Just let us know.

Once a racket has been strung, the work is done and the restring is payable in full, because a fitted string can't be returned to stock. If we arrive for a scheduled collection and there's nobody home, we may cancel a booking unless we reach out to you.

Stringing puts a frame under substantial tension. Frames weaken over time through impacts, previous restrings and simple age, and a frame that is already compromised can crack, deform or fail during the process even when everything is done correctly.

We inspect every racket before we start. If we see a crack, a grommet problem or anything else that concerns us, we'll stop and contact you before going any further.

By booking, you accept that you provide your racket at your own risk, and that we are not responsible for damage arising from the inherent stresses of stringing, including damage to frames that were already weakened, cracked, repaired, or at the end of their working life.

Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot be excluded or limited under the law of British Columbia, including liability for our own negligence.

If you supply string, please give us a full set. We can't guarantee a result with string that is old, previously used, or insufficient in length, and we aren't able to replace customer string that breaks during fitting.

If we string a racket at the wrong tension or with the wrong string through our own error, tell us within seven days and we'll restring it correctly at no charge, including collection and return.

The String Wizard and the descriptions in our catalogue are general guidance based on how strings typically play. They are not a prescription, and no string choice is a treatment for an injury. If you have persistent arm, wrist or shoulder pain, please see a physiotherapist or doctor.

We may update these terms. The version published here when you book is the one that applies to that booking.

These terms are governed by the laws of British Columbia and the applicable laws of Canada, and the courts of British Columbia have jurisdiction over any dispute.
